Business Development Manager

The Growth Company’s (GC) Business Development team have an exciting new opportunity for a Business Development Manager to work closely with the team and key stakeholders to develop high-quality, winning proposals. Exceptional bid writing skills are essential. As the role is primarily home-based, strong online collaboration skills are vital. We welcome applications from candidates regardless of location with an expectation of participating in remote activities and monthly in-person meetings in Manchester.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of high-quality, competitive bid responses, ensuring alignment with client specifications and scoring criteria. This includes managing EOIs, SSQs/PSQs, ITTs, and full proposals across a range of sectors and funding bodies.
  • Coordinate and manage the full bid lifecycle, providing oversight through all stages in accordance with governance processes and best practices, while ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners: including business units, solution design, supply chain, and finance to gather insights and develop compelling, tailored content.
  • Lead on storyboarding, drafting, and editing responses, ensuring all requirements are understood and addressed, and provide constructive feedback to other writers to enhance quality.
  • Represent GC in presentations, supplier meetings, and dialogue with clients during early engagement, clarification, and post-tender negotiations.
  • Review successful and unsuccessful bids to extract insights and drive continuous improvement in future submissions.
  • Maintain and improve bid documentation, including method statements, diagrams, and best practice content, adapting them for specific opportunities and markets.
  • Monitor market intelligence and networks to identify new bidding opportunities and ensure GC remains competitive and responsive to emerging prospects.

  • A proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and can manage multiple priorities with confidence and clarity.
  • Comfortable working remotely and collaborating effectively through digital platforms, with a strong sense of initiative and accountability.
  • Flexible and deadline-driven, with the ability to work non-standard hours when required to meet critical deadlines.

Skills Required:

  • Proven success in leading and writing winning multi-million-pound public sector bids, with a solid understanding of what constitutes a high-scoring response.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, persuasive content.
  • Strong analytical, research, and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Familiarity with public sector procurement practices and tendering portals, and experience working with national and local government departments and agencies.
  • Skilled in leading storyboarding sessions, managing review processes, and producing final documents to a high standard.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools, with the ability to manage and maintain bid libraries and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of public commissioning, employment, justice, skills, B2B sales, and programmes in business support.
