Peer Mentor (Substance Misuse Support)

The Growth Company's (GC) Employment team are now hiring for a Peer Mentor. As a Peer Mentor you will join our team to provide personalized advice, guidance, and training interventions for individuals with substance misuse issues. You'll facilitate referrals and maintain liaison with Jobcentre Plus and other relevant agencies, supporting individuals in developing essential skills such as motivation, a positive outlook, and self-esteem. 

Your role will be crucial in assisting their transition into or out of formal treatment, education, training, and, where appropriate, employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify individual needs, including learning needs.
  • Deliver interventions for each client; face-to-face and digital.
  • Nurture onward and frequent interaction with customers.
  • Enable customers to access and use information.
  • Record discussions and training sessions and coordinate further activity with customers.
  • Provide support for customers in implementing future courses of action.
  • Help prepare and develop resources to support progression and learning.
  • Facilitate learning in groups that improves employability and progression.

About You:

  • Insight and understanding of substance misuse, including an element of ‘lived experience’.
  • Desire to contribute to the improvement of services supporting people with drug or alcohol issues.
  • Warm, approachable, and empathetic style with the ability to build relationships with customers.
  • Ability to understand, demonstrate, and apply Growth Company values.
  • Mindful of professional boundaries.

Skills Required:

  • Motivated and keen with good communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others - personable and professional.
  • Strong integrity and emotional resilience.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting people in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
  • Good knowledge of welfare to work and Jobcentre Plus.
  • Familiarity with local treatment and health providers, support agencies, and community resources.
  • Understanding that some customers may also be service users within the National Probation Services or have experienced HM Prison environments.
  • Experience in the drug/alcohol issues treatment and support service.
