Finance, Benefit and Debt Advisor

The Growth Company’s (GC) Justice Services are hiring a Finance, Benefit, and Debt (FBD) Advisor to support individuals in prison or on probation. This role is both challenging and deeply rewarding, helping people overcome financial barriers to rehabilitation.

As an FBD Advisor, you’ll:

  • Help clients take control of their finances
  • Reduce stress linked to debt and instability
  • Improve access to benefits and financial support

Your guidance can be life-changing often the first time someone truly understands how to manage their money and navigate the system.

The starting salary for this role is £27,500 which will increase to £30,000 per annum following sucessfull completion of probationary period. 

Please note this role will be full time working across Hull/Humberside community locations. Due to the travelling, it is recommended that you hold a UK Driving Licence and own a car. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist offenders with financial issues through capacity-building, personal finance management, debt repayment plans, and access to benefits or third-sector support.
  • Work with participants in prison settings to help them access benefits and resolve debt issues.
  • Provide personal spending advice and budgetary skills training.
  • Communicate with utility suppliers, creditors, banks, and credit unions.
  • Develop positive relationships with participants to create action plans.
  • Adapt support to service user learning styles (face-to-face, telephony).
  • Ensure progress by following up on service user actions.
  • Advocate for additional support options (e.g., food banks, credit unions).

About you: 

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Competence with MI systems, spreadsheets, diaries, and email.
  • Willingness to travel and adapt.
  • Confidence and self-motivation.

Skills Required:

  • Experience in training, advice, guidance, and counselling.
  • Experience working with ex-offenders or individuals with barriers.
  • Knowledge of debt issues and personal finance mismanagement.
  • Proven ability to meet targets in high-performance environments.
  • Familiarity with the welfare-to-work sector and its customer base.
  • Knowledge of training, education, and employment opportunities.
  • High level of administrative accuracy and data security.
