The Growth Company’s (GC) Business Growth Hub (BGH) seeks a Business Advisor to deliver tailored business growth advice to ambitious business owners and senior managers in Greater Tameside to assess growth potential, identify barriers, and develop action plans using BGH toolkits. Manage the full client journey from eligibility checks to implementation linking businesses to the right services and expertise. Focus on clients that drive economic development, ensuring support aligns with operational goals and milestones.

GC BGH is a community of specialists helping businesses in Greater Manchester Salford to achieve their ambitions. Since 2011, the Hub has supported over 15,000 businesses, providing finance guidance, international links, and fostering innovation and people development. We partner with public and private sectors to offer expert business support, events, specialist programs, and funding.

This is a fixed term contract position until 31/03/2026

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Client Enquiries: Respond to client enquiries via phone and email, conducting initial assessments of growth potential and business needs using appropriate tools and systems, while building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work in close partnership with Tameside Council and the Stakeholder Account Manager to identify and engage businesses with high growth potential.
  • Verify Client Eligibility: Conduct initial eligibility checks to ensure potential clients meet project criteria before proceeding with formal assessments and action planning.
  • Coordinate Service Delivery: Personally connect clients with relevant internal and external services, ensuring these align with their strategic objectives and address identified growth barriers. Monitor service delivery to ensure effectiveness.
  • Track Outputs and Impacts: Oversee the ongoing collection and monitoring of output and impact data throughout and following project delivery, ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Record all client interactions and partner referrals in GC’s CRM and related systems, track progress against action plans, and ensure timely and accurate completion of administrative tasks.
  • Monitor Business Outcomes: Work closely with businesses to track key outcomes such as job creation and safeguarding, GVA growth, and other project-specific metrics resulting from support activities.
  • Conduct Business Diagnostics: Perform in-depth diagnostics on businesses or specific functional areas using BGH-branded tools to capture baseline data, identify needs, and develop tailored growth plans.
  • Provide Strategic Advice: Engage in detailed discussions with clients to understand their challenges and provide actionable recommendations that support sustainable growth.
  • Deliver Direct Support: Offer hands-on growth support and coordinate with internal and external specialists to help businesses achieve their full potential.
  • Build Professional Networks: Develop and maintain a strong network of business and professional contacts to generate referrals and enhance service reach.
  • Engage in Local Events: Actively participate in and organise networking events and business activities within Tameside to promote engagement and visibility.

About You:

  • Senior-Level Business Experience: Experience in the private sector, ideally within the Foundational Economy, at a senior management or director level (or equivalent skills and capabilities).
  • Growth Management Expertise: Proven ability to manage business challenges during periods of growth, demonstrating strategic and operational insight.
  • Team Collaboration: Strong track record of working effectively within professional teams to deliver shared goals.
  • Business Advisory Skills: Professional experience in conducting business assessments and delivering tailored advice and development support.
  • Event Delivery Experience: Demonstrated ability to organise and deliver business-focused events.
  • Project & Economic Development Knowledge: Understanding of project management techniques, business advisory principles, and the roles of key economic development organisations at national, regional, and local levels.

Skills Required:

  • Strong sales and account management capabilities, with a focus on building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Outstanding communication and networking abilities, fostering effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Highly developed planning, organisational, administrative, and project management skills to ensure efficient delivery of objectives.
  • Advanced IT proficiency, including experience with management information systems, spreadsheets, diary management tools, email platforms, and CRM databases.
